About Crunch Days

Crunch Days is a biopunk worldbuilding project developed by Ash Ravan. The project is set within a fictional Biotechnology organisation known as ‘Kali Biosystems’.

Exploring biology to transform humanity.

During its modernisation and industrialisation process, the nation of Dravidia grappled with severe limitations stemming from availability of required natural resources and an immature economic base. As a result, it relied heavily on importing necessary products and technology and struggled to improve the quality of life of its citizens.

It was within the context of this dire and suffocating background that Kali Biosystems emerged. Popularly known as ‘Kali’, the company was founded by a mysterious Agricultural scientist – known only as ‘Vaiko’ – who believed that humanity had willingly trapped itself within a ‘luxurious metal cage’ through its over reliance on hard technology and abandonment of the the natural world.

Vaiko believed that focusing exclusively on hardware and software, whilst offering great initial advancements’ would eventually impose limits on innovation through the rapid consumption of finite resources and negative environmental impacts.

Therefore, Vaiko founded Kali with a vision to explore and harness the full power of nature and biology. By learning from nature and adopting its greatest advantages, humanity could accelerate its evolutionary destiny and greatly expand what is possible to achieve. In particular, he hoped that thethe nation of Dravidia would no longer be held hostage by the limits of traditionally sought after natural resources and commodities. It could also create biological innovations that would eventually far exceed those achievable through traditional hardware and software.

This vision has been underpinned by a commitment to pure research in many fields, such as engineering biology, bio-mimicry, biotechnology, cybernetics, synthetic biology etc. This follows a unique model where funding and support for pure research & experimentation is completed prior to conscious commercial consideration. Commercial and industrial applications would then be mapped to any discoveries & innovations unearthed.

It was through this pioneering model that Kali’s first groundbreaking and mass produced product was born: the life cell. The revolutionary product utilised terrarium technology to produce portable and self sustaining oxygen supplies for humans. The life cell became the infrastructural backbone to several key industries, particularly the burgeoning space exploration sector.

The Life Cell became the platform upon which Kali rose up to become a pioneer and driver of advancement for both Dravidia and the world.

Message from Ash

Hi, my names is Ash Ravan. Thank you so much for viewing my worldbuilding project!

I love worldbuilding, whether it be in the form of books, films, comics, TV shows, podcasts or games. Worldbuilding has been a valuable escape from the overwhelming grind of daily life.

I spent so much of my life enjoying fiction worldbuilding that I began creating my own fictional worlds (mostly in my head). Eventually, I got off my sofa and and set up this website as a written repository for my worldbuilding projects and other creative work. Right now, I am focusing on the world of ‘Kali Biosystems’.

Most of the worldbuilding I post on this site will be framed as PSAs, educational material, internal communications and simple factual posts. This is because I just find these framing devices easier to write in. I will look to write prose fiction at some point in the future and, possibly, develop an audio drama podcast based within the Kali Biosystems world. For now, however, I will keep Crunch Days as a home for educational posts about Kali Biosystems.

If you like my worldbuilding and writing, I would be grateful if you could review, like and share my posts on various social media (sharing buttons are at the bottom of each post). Please also feel free to visit the Crunch Days social media channels.

I appreciate times are tough so no pressure to support me financially. Your views and following are reward enough. However, if you are willing and able to send some small donations my way to help me continue writing, please visit my support page. Your support is means the world to me!

Ash
